Civic Education for Women

The aim of the program is to provide knowledge and information on democratic and election principles to women in the community.  This should enable them to actively participate in the political and social activities in the society, building the foundation for sustained democracy in Afghanistan.

Description

BRD plans to conduct 8 workshops for women in Logar and Ningarhar provinces of Afghanistan, the duration of each workshop being three days.  Topics covered will be women's role in the political, social and economic process, and definition of democratic and governmental principles.  The workshops will be conducted in a participatory manner.  This is planned in order to improve the active participation skills of the participants in each session.  Time will be allowed for working groups in each workshop session.

Workshops materials are prepared on PowerPoint presentation.  The participants will also receive written handout materials.  These workshops have been prepared through close consultation with BRD Volunteer Consultants and Training Specialists in Europe and the United States.  Participants will be awarded certificates at the end of each workshop.

Time Frame

The time frame for the 8 workshops will be 2 months, 4 workshops conducted each month.

Monitoring and Evaluation

BRD has a standard procedure for monitoring and evaluating the project activities in all program areas.  BRD's Women's Development Section will be responsible for monitoring the program and of overall activities of the project on a continuous basis.  This is planned to ensure smooth implementation of the project according to the target objective and time line.  BRD senior management will provide monitoring to the project every 15 days, to ensure the quality of the project according to the project objective.  BRD will perform evaluation of the workshops after completion of each workshop.  Trainers will be evaluated in order to improve the process and fill the gaps for the next workshop.  BRD and its donor agency will have joint evaluation responsibilities, performed at the end of the project.  These evaluations will be performed according to the project objectives mentioned in the project plan.  Reports from results of monitoring and evaluation will be provided to each donor agency.
