Civic Education Program For Women
The aim of the program is to provide knowledge and information on democratic and election principles to women in the community. This should enable them to actively participate in the political and social activities in the society, building the foundation for sustained democracy in Afghanistan. The removal of the Taliban from power, and the later establishment of an interim administration pursuant to the Bonn agreement, opened the door for democracy in Afghanistan. The successful implementation of Loya Jerga which selected the Transitional Government, and the successful implementation of the constitutional Loya Jerga, which approved the new constitution for Afghanistan, gave women equal rights with men. This has brought great opportunities to women in Afghanistan. Now they may be engaged effectively in promoting democracy and human rights, which it is planned, will reduce violence against women, as well as gender inequality. Women should be further empowered in their struggles for their place in democratic society.
Women's historical lack of knowledge and awareness of democratic and election principles are a constraint to their effective engagement in the political and democracy promotion process. The effective teaching of these skills to women will encourage and empower women to participate actively in all social, political, economic activities in the society. Together with men, women will put the foundation of a democratic government in Afghanistan. BRD intends to conduct effective training workshops for women on these democratic and election principles.
